Daniel Jay Robison grew up in Warren, Ohio in the 1960s and 1970s when ventriloquism was at its height with artists such as Paul Winchell, Jimmy Nelson, Edgar Bergen and Shari Lewis. These artists all had a great impact on Daniel's passion for ventriloquism. It is difficult to imagine a person more influential than Jimmy Nelson.
One day, Daniel was staying at a friend's house when he stumbled upon Jimmy Nelson's Instant Ventriloquism album. From that time on, Daniel has been practicing ventriloquism.
He started practicing ventriloquism with a few hand puppets that his parents bought him in 3rd grade and performed in the local talent show where he took 3rd place with a monkey puppet who sang "Tiptoe through the Tulips" by Tiny Tim. He was so scared his leg shook the whole performance.
Being a typical boy Daniel would also mess with his substitute teachers and do ventriloquism in class which confused the teachers. They would yell at other children and not realize who was talking. One time in 7th grade a substitute got the better of him and caught him and kicked him out of class. As fate would have it, the Principal was walking the halls and saw Daniel standing outside the classroom. He came up to Daniel and just said, "Throwing your voice in class again?"
At about that same time Daniel's interest in magic started when his dad taught him his first magic trick. Soon after he got his first magic catalog from Johnson-Smith Company out of Ft. Lauderdale where he order a few basic magic tricks. He then found out about Abbott's Magic Company in Colon, Michigan and started putting magic into his show.
Having mentors like Joe Shultz (Christian Magician) and the guidance from organizations such as The Society of American Ventriloquists and The Fellowship of Christian Magicians played a crucial role in Daniel's development. They provided him with not just technical skills but also a community of like-minded individuals who shared his passion. This support network gave him the confidence and encouragement needed to pursue his dual interests in ventriloquism and magic, shaping his career and personal growth.
Since then Daniel has been entertaining audiences and specializes in performing for churches and family events. Keep his show family friendly and being able to bring a Christian message is something that Daniel strives for while also keeping his show funny, enjoyable and memorable!! Family-friendly entertainment is crucial for Daniel because it allows him to reach a broad audience, including children and adults, in a positive and inclusive manner. By ensuring his shows are appropriate for all ages, he creates a welcoming atmosphere that aligns with his values and mission. Additionally, integrating a Christian message into his performances helps him connect with his audience on a deeper level, providing both entertainment and inspiration.
